Leyte Fourth District Representative Richard Gomez encouraged the Philippine Sports Commission (PCC) to resume the operations of Rizal Memorial Stadium and Philippine Sports Complex for athletes as they will participate in the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in 2023.
According to Gomez, he said that back in 2020, all the sports trainings and stadiums were prohibited by the government to control the spread of COVID-19 virus.
Stadiums such as the Rizal Memorial Stadium and Ultra Sports Complex in Pasig were used as quarantine facilities for those who have been positive of COVID-19.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered the country’s way of life by prohibiting certain activities, which included halting and limiting the conduct of group training of Filipino athletes, whether collegiate, amateur or professional.” Gomez said.
Gomez assured that the athletes would not get sick and would still maintained health protocols during their daily training.
He also said that the PSC should resume all the sports facilities and give the athletes permission to train for the 32nd SEA Games in 2023.
The 32nd SEA Games, a biennial multi-sport event participated in by 11 countries in Southeast Asia, is slated to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on May 5 to 17, 2023.
