As part of the provincial government’s initiatives to improve disaster risk response and mitigation in La Union, Governor Rafy Ortega-David has turned over a new ambulance to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Following the turn over, she said on Facebook, “May bagong ambulansya tayo para mas lalo pang mapabilis ang pagresponde natin sa mga Kaprobinsiaan.”

One of La Union’s strengths, according to Ortega-David, is disaster risk response and mitigation, and she promised to keep enhancing it in the years to come.

According to the La Union Public Information Office, she recently called the Provincial Incident Management Team together to work on weather disruption preparations.

In a statement, it said the governor urged the team to cooperate in order to speed up the finance procedure for buying extra disaster response equipment and for logistics to guarantee readiness. She also provided guidance on the Response Cluster’s improved communication and response practices.

Ortega-David finally gave the team the order to send advance deployments in the grounds and not wait for disaster to occur, saying, “I’d like to commend our PDRRMO, na pagdating sa mga ganitong bagay, lagi kayong on the ground kung magtrabaho. So others may live, katulad nga ng lagi nating sinasabi dito.”
