The work and sacrifices of healthcare workers and front-liners in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic have saved millions of lives, making them heroes of this generation, National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said Thursday.

Galvez, who is also the vaccine czar, said everyone played a crucial role in the success of the government’s coronavirus response and vaccination program.

“Sa gitna ng ating laban kontra sa Covid-19, umusbong ang mga bagong bayaning tulad ninyo na isinantabi ang inyong mga personal na kapakanan at kaligtasan para sa ating mga mahal na kababayan. Kayo ang mga tunay na bayani ng henerasyong ito (Amid our fight against Covid-19, new heroes like you have emerged and you have set aside your personal gains and safety for our beloved countrymen. You are the real heroes of this generation),” Galvez said.

He praised health personnel and volunteers of the Centers for Health Development (CHD) and Regional Vaccination Operations Center (RVOC) as well as the front-liners from local government units, the security sector, and various national government line agencies, for helping the country reach the significant numbers in the vaccination program, achieving milestones for population protection.

“Nang dahil sa inyo, milyon milyong buhay ang ating nailigtas mula sa Covid-19. Kayo ang patunay na walang imposible kung tayong lahat ay magkakaisa, magtutulungan, at higit sa lahat, buo ang adhikaing magsilbi sa bayan (Because of you, we have saved millions of lives against Covid-19. You are the epitome that there’s nothing impossible if everyone will work together, unite, helping each other and most of all, with high spirit to serve the country),” Galvez said.

Apart from the contribution of healthcare workers, Galvez also thanked Filipinos for adhering to the government health protocols and availing the Covid-19 vaccines.

The latest data from the National Vaccination Operations Center showed a total of 153,109,942 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, with 70,145,312 Filipinos having completed primary series of the jab and 14,754,943 fully vaccinated having first booster shots. (PNA)
