Inaprubahan ng Senado sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ang Regional Specialty Center Act, na naglalayong magtatag ng mga specialty center sa mga ospital ng Department of Health sa buong bansa. 

Itinulak nina Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri at Senador Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, kasama ang iba pang mga senador, ang pag-apruba sa Senate Bill No. 2212, na nagsasabing dapat magkaroon ng mga espesyal na serbisyong medikal sa mga tao sa mga lalawigan.

Ikinalungkot ng mga senador na halos lahat ng mga specialty hospital ay matatagpuan sa Metro Manila, na nagreresulta sa mga pasyente na nangangailangan ng espesyal na pangangalagang medikal upang gumastos ng dagdag sa paglalakbay sa Maynila o manatili sa mga lalawigan para sa paggamot. 

“While we do have specialty centers in some of our provinces, few are equipped to offer the same level of services that our national specialty hospitals do. If our people cannot travel to get the specialized care that they need, then we should bring these specialty centers straight to them,” sabi ni Zubiri, co-sponsor ng panukalang batas.

Sa ilalim ng panukalang batas, lahat ng rehiyon ay magtatatag ng hindi bababa sa isang specialty center sa loob ng limang taon, na gagawing abot-kaya ang special medical needs ng mga tao. 

“It is our hope that the establishment of specialty centers would strengthen our healthcare system and make specialized health services available and accessible to all Filipinos in line with our vision of universal healthcare,” sabi naman ni Go.
