HINDI BIDA ANG SAYA? ‘Jollibee Data Breach,’ Nakakaalarma

Nangamba si Senior Citizen Party-list Chair Rodolfo Ordanes sa balitang na-leak ang ilang impormasyon kabilang na ang personal details ng customers ng Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC) matapos mabiktima ng data breach ang nasabing kumpanya.

Ayon sa National Privacy Commission (NPC), humigit-kumulang na 11 million customers ng JFC ang apektado ng nasabing data breach noong Hunyo 22. Kaugnay nito, humingi ng palugit na 20 days ang pamunuan ng JFC upang magkaroon ng internal investigation sa kanilang kumpanya upang maresolba ang nasabing problema.

Dahil sa nasabing insidente, nabahala si Ordanes na ang data leak na ito ay maaaring mag-ugat sa ibang pang krimen tulad ng identity theft dahil sa mga nakuhang impormasyon tulad ng pangalan, address, at ID numbers lalo na sa senior citizens.

“Those data files may be being held for ransom or could be sold to syndicates engaged in data mining.”

Nanawagan siya na bigyan ng agarang aksyon ang isyu na ito upang hindi na kumalat pa ang impormasyong nakuha sa kumpanya.

“The targeting of JFC, which is one of the country’s largest companies, means no one is safe from these hackers. The private sector must invest in cybersecurity defense and offense.”

Umaasa rin si Ordanes na ang insidente ay mag-uudyok sa Senado na kumilos nang mabilis upang isabatas na ang panukalang Anti-Financial Accounts Scamming Act.

“More funds and techie people are also needed by the agencies and organizations that fight cybercrime. Scammers often prey on the elderly because they can be easily confused about unfamiliar modern technology,” aniya.
