HINDI TALIWAS! Villanueva Pinalagan Paratang Kontra SOGIE Bill

Nilinaw ni Senador Joel Villanueva na hindi siya kasama sa pumipigil na maisabatas ang Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Equality bill, taliwas sa mga bintang sa kanya.

Sa pagpasok ng Pride Month ngayong taon, mariing inihayag ni Villanueva na kaisa siya pagpapatupad ng safe space para sa mga miyembro ng lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBT) community.

Aniya, walang katotohanan ang kumakalat na pahayag na isa siya sa “opponents” ng LGBT community matapos ang kanyang pagsulong sa anti-discrimination bill kaysa sa SOGIE bill noong nakaraang taon.

“Doon sa mga nagsasabing si Joel Villanueva ang dahilan, bakit ‘di niyo kausapin ‘yung mga senador? Bakit ‘di niyo kausapin ang majority ng miyembro ng Senado at sabihing ilabas ‘yan at doon dalhin sa plenaryo, because I have no problems debating with it,” sambit ng mambabatas.

Inihayag rin ni Villanueva na marami siyang kilala at nakakasalamuhang kabilang sa LGBT community kaya malabo na isa siya sa tataliwas sa pagsulong ng SOGIE bill. “I have nothing against LGBT. I will say it again I am very, very close to a lot of the members of the LGBT community.”

Maalalang noong nakaraang taon ay isa si Villanueva sa nagsabi na mas “holistic” ang pagkakaroon ng anti-discrimination bill sa bansa para masakop nito lahat ng marginalized groups at hindi lamang ang LGBT community.

Ang nasabing suhestiyon ng senador ay nakatanggap ng maraming kritisismo sa taumbayan dahil tila sumasang-ayon ito sa pahayag ng kanyang ama na si CIBAC party-list Representative Eddie Villanueva noong 2019 na ang SOGIE bill ay maaring matatapakan ang karapatang-pantao ng ibang community na hindi sakop ng SOGIE bill.

“SOGIE bill will not promote equality but will instead unduly give ‘special’ rights to some members of our society at the expense of the rights of the other members and to the detriment of the social order in our community,” saad ng nakatatandang Villanueva sa kanyang privilege speech.
