Iligan City Representative and Chair, Committee on Civil Service & Professional Regulation Frederick Siao filed House Bill 5728 or the International Filipino Sports Achievers Recognition and Career Development Act. The bill grants automatic Civil Service Professional Eligibility and Career Paths for athletes, their coaches, trainors, and management team, who achieve podium finish or set new records in International Sports Competitions and for other purposes.
Siao said “For Filipino athletes and players who are already in civil service when they earned their medal-winning or record-setting international sports achievement, they shall be promoted two salary grades higher than their current salary grade.”
HB 5728 will also automatically grant civil service professional eligibility to athletes. It will also establish a Sports Development Office (SDO) in every province, city, and municipality in the country.
The said Bill will also grant medal-winning and international record-setting Filipino athletes a bachelor’s or masteral degrees through the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).
The former sports director of Illigan City said that such achievements should be recognized in terms of qualification to government service. Siao said that the bill brings hope and inspiration to future and current athletes who give their best in training or competing Internationally.
