IMPEACHMENT O PRIORITY BILLS? Balancing Act Sa Kongreso, Hinimok Ni Acidre

Hinimok ng isang lider ng House of Representatives na unahin ang mga kapwa mambabatas ang mahahalagang legislative work habang sinisilip ang impeachment complaint laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte. Ayon kay Tingog Party-list Representative Jude Acidre, habang mahalaga ang accountability, dapat unahin ng Kongreso ang pag-apruba sa mga priority bills ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Definitely, we are all for accountability. But then again, katulad ng sinabi ng ating Pangulo, ang mahalaga din dito ay hindi tayo ma-distract sa ibang mahahalagang gawain ng inyong Kongreso. Nandyan pa ho ang pag-ratify ng ating budget. Nandyan pa po ang mga naiiwang batas… yung legislative agenda ng administrasyong ito,” aniya. 

Sinabi rin ni Acidre na magdedesisyon ang House leadership kung paano i-manage ang timeline ng impeachment process, habang isinasaalang-alang din ang Senado. Dagdag pa niya magiging isang “careful balancing act” ang pagdinig sa impeachment complaint dahil responsibilidad ng Kongreso ang pagtalakay sa complaint, pero dapat ding tingnan ang legislative agenda.

Samantala, sinabi ni Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman na hindi siya pabor sa pagsulong ng impeachment sa ngayon. Ipinaliwanag niyang masyado nang limitado ang oras ng Kongreso ngayong taon, lalo na’t may holiday breaks at papalapit na eleksyon. 

“It has to go through the entire process – from filing to referral to the justice committee, deliberations, voting, and, if approved, referral to the Senate,” aniya na hinalintulad ang haba ng proceso sa naging impeachment trial ni Chief Justice Renato Corona na umabot ng apat at kalahating buwan.
