Choosing the right leader for matters involving governance must follow a thorough understanding of a politician’s historical background. Their past actions along with the commitment to an ideology show what solutions are being offered in minimizing societal issues. Debates had become an opportunity for candidates to broadcast their respective platforms, agendas, and perceptions. This particular event helps an individual determine who they personally think is deserving of their vote.

Debates adhere to a format with a moderator and speakers defending a statement to the people and panel. Through this formal discussion, candidates are given the opportunity to provide a coherent explanation regarding their motives. Although at times, own perspectives are involved, arguments lie stronger when it’s supported with research and facts. However, failure to attend and participate could weaken the credibility and lead the public to question if the candidate is suitable for the position.

With the upcoming 2022 National Elections, debates organized on television, radio and online platforms are evident. This allows Filipinos to engage in an event concerning potential leaders on handling affairs about laws, treaties, and economy to a commoner’s living condition. Awareness of their personality and stance helps identify if their mentioned propositions are in line with your principles. Your preference for a leader is a reflection of your values.

As candidates try to influence and persuade you as a voter, your verdict lies on whether it results in regret or satisfaction. Detailed plans with the insinuation of pursuing the better shouldn’t be caged in promises. It must be obtainable and practical, accompanied by a long-term benefiting effect on the people.

Since this decision not only concerns present circumstances but also the forthcoming generations, Filipinos must exercise critical and rational thinking. Voters must take into account every detail and information that surrounds the candidate they are rooting for.
