Hindi na kailangang sumailalim sa mga drug test at psychological at psychiatric evaluation ang mga aktibong pulis at sundalo kapag nag-a-apply para sa lisensya ng baril.

Ito ang inanunsyo ng Philippine National Police (PNP) na base sa isang memorandum na nilagdaan ni PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil noong Hulyo 16.

“All active military and police personnel are no longer required to undergo drug tests and PPE (psychological and psychiatric evaluations) since they are already trained as responsible firearm holders,” ani Marbil. Binigyang-diin niya na ang mga drug test at psychological assessment na isinagawa sa kanilang serbisyo ay sapat na para sa mga kinakailangan sa License to Own and Possess Firearms.

Ipinaliwanag ng tagapagsalita ng PNP Civil Security Group na si Police Lieutenant Colonel Eudisan Gultiano, ang bagong direktiba ay naglalayong i-streamline ang proseso at mabawasan ang administrative burden sa mga aktibong tauhan.

Ayon sa pinakahuling datos, ang PNP ay may humigit-kumulang 11,000 expired gun permit, habang ang Armed Forces of the Philippines ay may humigit-kumulang 14,000. Binigyang-diin ni Gultiano na ang hakbang ay inaasahang mapapabilis ang proseso ng pag-renew at aplikasyon para sa mga lisensya ng baril, na magiging mas maginhawa para sa mga nasa aktibong serbisyo.
