Various agencies of government converged on Labor Day at the Talisay City sports complex to open the “Kadiwa ng Pangulo”, which offered wide array of farm produce sold at cheaper price.

Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas, who led regional directors of different government agencies in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Kadiwa pop-up stores, in his speech, cited farmers’ effort to ensure food security in Cebu.

He said the government recognizes their hard work by providing them with a platform to sell their produce directly to the buyers without any layers to ensure cheaper trading prices.

“Everyone has a purpose in life, regardless of their status. Whether you are a politician, a professional, or have other occupation, you are born to work and most importantly make a positive impact on the lives of others,” he said.

Ten farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) participated in the Kadiwa activities in Talisay City.

Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA-Central Visayas) personnel distributed repacked vegetable seeds and some reading materials, as well as provided technical assistance to interested individuals.

Apart from Talisay City, two other sites in Central Visayas – the provincial capitol grounds in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and Dogukan-Capitol area in Polangyuta, Siquijor – simultaneously held their own version of Kadiwa ng Pangulo.

Angel Enriquez, regional executive director of DA-7, said Kadiwa is a priority project of the Marcos administration that aims to help and link farmers and the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) directly to the consumers for them to offer fresh farm produce, processed products and other non-food items at very reasonable and affordable prices.

“It establishes additional markets for farmers, fisherfolk and micro enterprises to sell locally produced agri-fishery products and basic necessities.Through the initiative, fresh agricultural and fishery commodities become more accessible to consumers at affordable prices,” she said. (PNA)
