Former Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles has been named chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
A livestream from state-run RTVM showed President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administers the oath of Nograles as new CSC chairperson at Malacañang Palace.
Photos of Nograles’ oath-taking ceremony were also shared to reporters.
Malacañang has yet to release Nograles’ appointment papers.
CSC commissioner Aileen Lizada earlier confirmed Nograles’ appointment and released his appointment papers.
Nograles replaced Alicia dela Rosa-Bala who retired on February 2, the end of her seven-year term.
His new post requires confirmation by Congress. If his appointment is confirmed, he will be CSC chairperson until 2029.
Nograles was Duterte’s cabinet secretary since 2018, replacing Leoncio Evasco Jr., who resigned to run for Bohol governor in the 2019 elections.
He co-chairs the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and chairs the Task Force on Zero Hunger.
Nograles is also vice president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which Duterte chairs.
He was named acting presidential spokesperson after Harry Roque joined the senatorial race in 2022.
Prior to joining Duterte’s Cabinet, Nograles served his third and final term as Davao City Representative. (PNA)
