Tinutulan ni Albay First District Representative Edcel Lagman ang pagpapaliban ng barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) na nakatakda sa Disyembre 5, ngayong taon hanggang sa unang Lunes ng Disyembre 2023.

Sa isang pahayag ngayong Miyerkules, sinabi ni niya na ang palaging dahilan ng pagpapaliban ay ang matitipid na 7-8 bilyong piso dahil ang halagang ito ay maaaring i-realign upang matustusan ang pagtugon sa pandemya at ang stimulus package para sa pagbangon ng ekonomiya.

“The proffered reason that the Comelec (Commission on Elections) needs a respite after conducting the May 2022 national and local elections does not obtain because the Comelec itself has repeatedly said that it is ready to conduct the December 2022 village and youth elections,” dagdag ni Lagman.

Sinabi rin niya na hindi tumutugma ang ibinibigay na dahilan na kailangan ng Comelec ng pahinga matapos isagawa ang May 2022 national at local elections dahil ang mismong Komisyon ay paulit-ulit na nagsabing handa itong isagawa ang eleksyon.

Ayon pa sa mambabatas, si Comelec Chairman George Garcia na mismo ang nagpahayag sa mga mambabatas na ang pagpapaliban ng barangay elections hanggang Disyembre 2023 ay magiging magastos dahil kakailanganin ang karagdagang pondo sa halagang P18.358 bilyong piso.

“Elections are the bedrock of democratic governments. Democracy at the grassroots must be assured by holding regular elections for barangay and SK officials and should not be imperiled by repeated postponements of grassroots elections,” aniya.

Sinabi ng House of Representatives kamakailan na tinitingnan ng Kongreso ang pagpasa ng panukalang batas hinggil sa pagpapaliban ng BSKE sa pagsisimula ng Oktubre.
