Following the recent announcement on the approval of limited face-to-face classes, the government allowed physical learning in more educational programs that require hands-on experience in areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) under the authority of President Rodrigo Duterte issued on Tuesday, September 28.
“Based on the data we gathered on the ground, there is a small percentage of students and faculty members who were affected by COVID-19. I’m convinced that it is safe to hold face-to-face classes and it can be expanded to cover the degree programs,” Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Prospero De Vera III said.
Courses on Engineering and Technology, Hospitality/Hotel and Restaurant Management, Tourism/Travel Management, Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation are allowed by the CHED to conduct face-to-face classes.
CHED said that they presented data to the pandemic task force to show evidence that the protocols developed for the implementation of in-person learning “were effective in ensuring the achievement of the competencies of students/graduates without compromising their safety.”
Other schools and universities that want to hold face-to-face classes in areas under MGCQ have to apply for authority from CHED Regional Offices.
