The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) gained support from the League of Municipalities of the Philippines in the implementation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s housing program

In a recent hybrid meeting with LMP led by its president, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Mayor Chavit Singson, Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar presented DHSUD’s implementation of shelter-related programs.

“The program will provide access to decent housing in sustainable communities to our kababayan (countrymen), especially those in the low-income bracket,” Acuzar said in a statement on Friday, emphasizing the President’s goal of addressing the housing backlog of 6.5 million units.

The LMP’s 1,487 members said they would earmark portions of their domains as sites for housing and urban development projects.

Singson assured Acuzar that the LMP would collaborate and share their expertise.

Acuzar attended a hearing at the House of Representatives on Thursday to present the 2023 proposed budget of PHP4.029 billion before the Committee on Appropriations.

Of the total, PHP2 billion will be allocated to the National Housing Authority, PHP1.09 billion to DHSUD, PHP500 million to the Social Housing Finance Corp., and PHP431 million to the Human Settlements Adjudication Commission. (PNA)
