‘MAN UP!’ Suspensyon Sa Mag-Amang Valera, Pinanindigan Ni Bersamin

Pinanindigan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin ang suspensyon nina Abra Governor Dominic Valera at Vice Governor Maria Jocelyn Valera-Bernos, na aniya ay “legal at hindi whimsical.”

Sinabi ni Bersamin na ang suspensyon ay kaugnay ng mga reklamong isinampa laban sa mag-amang Valera, kabilang ang paglabag sa Local Government Code. 

Si Gov. Valera ay sinuspinde ng 60 araw matapos akusahan ng pagkakatalaga ng kapalit para sa yumaong konsehal ng Bucay, si Juan Palcon, nang walang konsultasyon sa partidong kinabibilangan ng nasawi—isang paglabag sa batas.

Samantala, si Vice Gov. Bernos ay sinuspinde ng 18 buwan dahil sa oppression, abuse of authority, conduct unbecoming of a public official, at pagsuway sa mga patakarang kaugnay ng lockdown na nakaapekto sa serbisyo ng mga ospital noong pandemya ng 2020.

Ayon kay Bersamin, ang suspensyon ay hakbang upang maiwasan ang posibleng panghihimasok ng gobernador sa mga saksi habang nagpapatuloy ang imbestigasyon.

“It is time for the Valeras to man up. They have been unchecked for a long time because of their money and illegal use of influence. Now is the time for justice to be meted [out] in favor of the people they have aggrieved for a long time. Accountability is at last staring them in the face,” ani Bersamin.

May ulat na humihingi ng tulong ang pamilya Valera kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., pero sinabi ni Bersamin na dapat nilang igalang ang kasalukuyang proseso ng hustisya.
