Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said about 1,133 residents of Tondo 1 have undergone rapid testing for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) during the 48-hour hard lockdown in the area.
In a statement, Domagoso reported that 85 have tested positive for Covid-19 as of 1 p.m.
“Maganda rin ito na benepisyo na kapag nagbuti kayo sa komunidad, naging masinop kayo, naging disiplinado kayo ang benepisyo ninyo ay you will live normally. Kapag ikaw ay naging matino at talagang sinusunod niyo ‘yung social distancing, and ‘yung quarantine and other protocols (This is beneficial, that when you do good in the community, you become orderly, you become disciplined, you will live normally. If you observe the law and practice social distancing, the quarantine, and other protocols), we will open your barangay. Discipline must be put in the right place,” he said.
City authorities have already apprehended 176 violators since 5 a.m. in Tondo 1, wherein 80 percent of them came from one barangay.
Domagoso said the city government is now preparing for possible scenarios once the enhanced community quarantine is lifted.
“We, together with JCI, are now building a Covid-19 facility in the community, utilizing public school. We are now building a 40-bed capacity in one of our schools, Araullo High School. The reason behind is if there is a resurgence of the Covid 19, we’re trying to prepare also in terms of facility. Doon na kami papunta (We’re going in that direction),” he added.
As of 5 p.m. on Saturday, there are 573 active cases in Manila City.
About 102 of the total cases were recorded in Tondo 1 area. (PNA)
