Incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. appointed retired University of the Philippines (UP) Prof. Clarita Carlos as National Security Adviser and ABONO party-list Rep. Conrado Estrella III as Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary under his administration.
The appointments were discussed during Marcos’ meeting with Carlos and Estrella at his headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
Carlos and Estrella accepted the appointment.
Carlos, a retired political science professor at UP Diliman, served as the first female civilian president of the National Defense College of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001.
She also acted as a consultant of the government in peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and has provided consultancy to Congress and other government agencies.
Meanwhile, Estrella was one of the House deputy speakers of the 18th Congress. He first served in Congress as a representative of Pangasinan’s 6th District from 1987 to 1995 and was re-elected from 2001 to 2010.
Estrella is also the grandson of Conrado Estrella, Sr., the agrarian reform minister in the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.
Marcos has named 20 new Cabinet secretaries.
Marcos earlier appointed his chief of staff and spokesperson Vic Rodriguez as Executive Secretary, incoming Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio as Education Secretary, and Davao del Norte Rep. Anton Lagdameo, Jr. as Special Assistant to the President.
Marcos also assigned Arsenio Balisacan as National Economic and Development Authority Head, Benjamin Diokno as Finance Secretary, Amena Pangandaman as Budget secretary, Alfred Pascual as Trade and Industry Secretary, and Felipe Medalla as Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor.
The other Cabinet nominees include Beatrix Rose “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles as Press Secretary, Cavity Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla as Justice Secretary, Bienvenido Laguesma as Labor Secretary, Susan Ople as Migrant Workers Secretary, Manuel Bonoan as Public Works Secretary, and Benjamin Abalos, Jr. as Interior and Local Government Secretary.
Marcos also named Erwin Tulfo as Social Welfare and Development Secretary, Ivan John Enrile Uy as Information Communications and Technology Secretary, Christina Frasco as Tourism Secretary, and Nadia Angping as head of the Presidential Management Staff.
