The family of the late former president Fidel V. Ramos will offer a Holy Mass on the occasion of his first death anniversary on Monday.
The Mass will be held at his gravesite at Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City at 9 a.m., according to his family.
Ramos, the 12th President of the Philippines fondly called by his initials “FVR,” died July 31, 2022 at the age of 94.
As a public servant, military officer and later as president, Ramos developed the “UST” practice of leadership which he repeatedly included in his speeches.
“Unity, solidarity and teamwork (UST). Kaya natin ‘to (We can do it)! Work as you pray, and pray as you work,” he would often say.
After graduating from West Point, the United States Military Academy, Ramos served during the Korean War in 1950 to 1952, the Vietnam War in 1965 to 1968 as a member of the Philippine Civic Action Group and fought against the Hukbong Bayan Laban sa Hapon (Hukbalahap or the People’s Army Against Japan) in Luzon that ran from 1946 to 1954.
During his six years in office as President from 1992 to 1998, one of his achievements was the signing of the peace agreement between the government and Moro National Liberation Front on Sept. 2, 1996. (PNA)
