The San Juan city government on Saturday distributed residents washable and reusable face masks as part of the national government’s “Mask Para sa Masa” program to contain the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Mayor Francis Zamora said the city government has received 88,000 reusable face masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) sets from the national government’s Covid-19 Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) team, which will be distributed to each household in 21 barangays.

Zamora said the residents need not worry about complying with the health and safety protocols against Covid-19 as the city government has started the distribution of the free face masks.

The city government has initially rolled out the distribution of free face masks to the residents of Barangays West Crame and Sta. Lucia.

Meanwhile, the city’s Barangay Health Emergency Response Team will also be provided with PPE sets to ensure their safety while serving the public.

To secure 30 million free face masks to Filipinos, the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) have been providing free face masks, PPE sets, and hygiene kits, to the local government units (LGUs) under the “Mask para sa Masa” program.

On the other hand, the local government continues to distribute financial assistance for its healthcare workers and non-medical front-liners.

The city government also gives cash incentives to the Covid-19 survivors who have been housed in various quarantine facilities in San Juan.

As the city government boosts its efforts to ensure the strict enforcement of its local orders on wearing face masks, face shields, and anti-spitting ordinance, the San Juan police office was provided with brand new bicycles and body cameras that they can use in performing their duties. (PNA)
