Malacañang on Tuesday conveyed grief on the passing of veteran journalist and former Press Secretary Ricardo “Dong” Puno Jr.
“The Palace extends its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of former Press Secretary Ricardo “Dong” Puno, Jr., who passed away today,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, acting presidential spokesperson, said in a statement.
A lawyer by profession, Nograles said Puno was a respected member of the media prior to and after serving under the administration of former President Joseph Estrada.
“Known for his intelligent, insightful interviews, Secretary Puno received numerous distinctions for his work in public affairs programs that helped provide the public with a better understanding of the issues of the day,” Nograles said.
“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Secretary Puno as we join them in praying for his eternal repose,” he added.
According to the ABS-CBN report, Puno succumbed to a lingering illness at 12:15 pm on Tuesday, citing his sons Ricky and Donnie. He was 76.
Puno was the senior vice president of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs and was popular for his shows Dong Puno Live and Viewpoint.
He is the son of former Justice Minister and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ricardo Puno Sr. (PNA)
