Nagpahayag ng suporta si Paranaque 2nd District Congressman Gus Tambunting sa panukalang batas na naglalayong alisin ang mandatoryong paggamit ng purchase booklets para sa mga senior citizen at persons with disabilities (PWDs) na nag-a-avail ng discount sa mga gamot at grocery item.

“This is an important issue for me because drug stores are strict in not implementing discounts without the booklets, which at times they forget or they don’t have,” aniya sa budget briefing ng Department of Social Welfare and Development sa Kamara noong September 4. 

Sinang-ayunan naman ni Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian ang sentimyento ni Tambunting, at kinumpirma ang buong suporta ng departamento sa abolisyon ng purchase booklets. “We fully support the abolition of the use of the booklet which is an archaic tool. It’s an additional burden to access the benefits,” aniya.

Paliwanag ng DSWD chief, nakipag-ugnayan na ang ahensya sa Department of Health (DOH) at Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) hinggil sa paggamit ng mga booklet na ito. Gayunpaman, ang parehong mga ahensya ay nagpahayag ng mga alalahanin dahil ang paggamit ng mga booklet ay kasalukuyang bahagi ng kanilang pagpapatupad ng mga tuntunin at regulasyon. Iminungkahi niya na suriin ng DOH at DTI ang kanilang mga alituntunin upang mapagaan ito.

Sa huli, binigyang-diin ni Tambunting ang pangangailangang alisin na rin ang paggamit ng gamot at grocery purchase booklets para sa mga PWDs.
