Davao Oriental Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy Jr. has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Regional Development Council in the Davao Region (RDC-11), the provincial government announced Wednesday evening.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed the appointment of Uy as RDC-11 chair on Dec. 15, 2023, in place of the late provincial governor Corazon N. Malanyaon who died at the age of 73 last June, the provincial government said.
In his Dec. 15 letter, Marcos said Uy’s appointment is co-terminus with his regular term as a local elective official.
“By virtue hereof, you may qualify and perform the duties of the office, furnishing the Office of the President and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your Oath of Office,” the President said.
Uy will complete the unexpired term of Malanyaon as RDC chair until June 30, 2025.
The RDC is the primary institution that coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts in the region.
Under the Marcos administration, the RDCs are primarily responsible for bridging gaps between the national and local governments by improving vertical and horizontal linkage in socio-economic development planning, investment programming, budgeting, project monitoring, and evaluation. (PNA)
