President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday said he would be “very fortunate” if his hand-picked candidates under the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas coalition win this year’s senatorial race.
Marcos said it is “very easy” to campaign for the Alyansa’s Senate slate, stressing that all of his chosen candidates could be considered “superstars” because of their impressive track records and experiences in public service.
“Lahat po ng pinakamagaling at pinakamasipag na mga nagse-serbisyo pulitiko sa lahat ng larangan ng pulitika ay nandito po sila kaya ako po ay napakapalad (All the best and hardest-working politicians in all fields of politics are here, so I am very fortunate),” he said during the Alyansa’s campaign rally in Antipolo City, Rizal.
“Kapag nahalal po lahat itong kandidato ng Alyansa ay napakapalad ko bilang Pangulo na sila po ay aking kasama, sila po ay aking kabalikat sa dami po ng ating gagawin (When all these candidates of Alyansa are elected, I will be very fortunate as President to have them as my companions, they will be my partners in all that we do),” Marcos added.
Marcos urged voters not to think twice in choosing the Alyansa candidates, telling them that he was “very selective” in choosing who to endorse.
If there is anyone who must think twice, it would be the political opponents of Alyansa, Marcos said.
Marcos said he believes in Alyansa bets’ competence and integrity, adding that they are capable of helping his administration in attaining its agenda for prosperity.
“Para matapos po natin iyang mahahalagang programang iyan, kailangan na kailangan po ang tulong ng mga senador. Kailangan ko po sila. Dapat mahalal talaga sa Senado. Madali naman pong makita kung bakit dapat sila ay ilalagay natin sa Senado (For us to complete those important programs, the help of senators is really necessary. I need them. They should be elected to the Senate. It is easy to see why we should put them in the Senate),” he said.
“Sanay na po sila gumawa ng batas. Alam na po nila ang patakbo sa Senado. Alam na po nila kujng sino ang kailangan kausapin. Alam na po nila kung paano pabilisin ang trabaho ng gobyerno (They know how to make laws. They know how to run the Senate. They know who to talk to. They know how to speed up the work of the government).”
Alyansa’s senatorial slate is down to 11 candidates following the exit of Marcos’ elder sister, reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos.
In a press conference before the campaign rally, Alyansa’s campaign manager, Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, said the coalition remains on track and continues to gain momentum, despite the presidential sister’s withdrawal from the coalition’s ticket.
The candidates are Benhur Abalos and Abby Binay; incumbent Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid and Francis Tolentino; former senators Panfilo Lacson, Manny Pacquiao and Vicente Sotto III; and House lawmakers Erwin Tulfo and Camille Villar. (PNA)
