Malacañang on Tuesday said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is satisfied with the House of Representatives’ decision to dismiss two impeachment complaints against him, calling the process fair and anchored on truth.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President welcomed the outcome of the plenary vote, where an overwhelming majority of lawmakers junked the impeachment raps.

“Nasisiyahan po ang Pangulo sa naganap na proseso sa House of Representatives (The President is satisfied with the process that took place in the House of Representatives),” Castro said in a statement.

She said Marcos was encouraged by the vote of 284 House members supporting the dismissal.

“Natutuwa po ang Pangulo na 284 na miyembro ng House of Representatives ang naniniwala sa katotohanan at nagpasyang ibasura ang impeachment complaints laban sa kanya (The President is pleased that 284 members of the House believe in the truth and decided to dismiss the impeachment complaints against him).”

Castro said the President has no intention of dwelling on the issue and instead wants to move forward.

“Sa ngayon, ang nais ng Pangulo ay sumulong at magtuloy-tuloy sa trabaho (For now, what the President wants is to move forward and continue working),” she said, adding that Marcos remains focused on economic programs aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos.

Earlier, the House of Representatives dismissed two impeachment complaints against Marcos after the committee on justice ruled that the petitions were insufficient in substance.

In the plenary vote, 284 lawmakers voted to dismiss the complaints, eight opposed, and four abstained.

The complaints were filed separately by lawyer Andre de Jesus on Jan. 19 and by members of the Makabayan Coalition on Jan. 22. While both were initially found sufficient in form, they were later rejected for lack of substantive grounds.

Marcos earlier said the impeachment complaints lacked basis and were mere distractions. (PNA)
