The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok is coordinating with Thai authorities to check if a Filipino is among the over 30 people who died in a mass killing at a daycare in the country’s northern Nongbua Lamphu province Thursday.

“The Embassy is working with Thai authorities and the Filipino community in Thailand to ascertain if any Filipino is among the casualties or injured,” it said in a statement.

The Embassy then underscored its readiness to extend the necessary assistance to any affected Filipinos.

“The Philippine Embassy expresses heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the people and government of the Kingdom of Thailand for the injured and lost of lives in the shooting tragedy earlier today in Nongbua Lamphu province,” it noted.

“We are shocked and saddened by the heartbreaking event and we are one with the Thai people in their grief as they face the painful aftermath of this tragedy,” it added.

The suspect, a former policeman, killed at least 37, more than 20 of whom are children during a knife and gun attack at a child care center.

Afterwards, he shot his wife and child at home before killing himself.

Reports said the assailant was sacked in June for drug use. (PNA)
