According to a report by Philippine News Agency (PNA), President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said it was “baseless” for Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla to resign after his son was detained in a narcotics operation.

Remulla is qualified for the position despite the fact that his son, Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, was detained on Tuesday for possessing illicit substances. Marcos, in a chance interview in Pasay City, reportedly vouched for the Justice chief’s professionalism and integrity, it reported.

When asked about calls for Remulla’s resignation, the Chief Executive was quoted as saying, “I think the calls for him to resign have no basis. You call for somebody to resign if he’s not doing his job or that they have misbehaved in that job. He has not done [anything wrong]. He has done quite the contrary.”

He, according to PNA, also claimed Remulla had already taken a “very proper” attitude by choosing not to get involved in his son’s case.

Marcos said, “He has taken the very proper position that he is recusing himself from any involvement in the case of his son. And I think that being the Secretary of the Department of Justice he’s very aware that he must allow the processes of the judiciary to work properly and that no one in the executive should interfere.”

Juanito Jose had criminal charges brought against him before the Las Piñas City Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, according to a statement released by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday.

He is currently accused of violating Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Substances Act of 2002, Section 4 (importation of dangerous drugs).

Juanito Jose was arrested at around 11:10 a.m. on Oct. 11 in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City in a controlled delivery operation by the Ninoy Aquino International Airport-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group and PDEA which resulted in the seizure of 893.91 grams of kush (high-grade marijuana).

The illegal contraband was contained in a package that a certain Benjamin Huffman allegedly sent to the Justice chief’s son from the United States.
