Nakipag-pulong si Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez sa mga doktor, abogado at organic support groups para sa legalisasyon ng marijuana ngayon, Pebrero 27. 

Nagkaisa ang mga dumalo sa pagpupulong na kailangan na ialis ang cannabis at iba pang derivatives nito sa listahan ng delikadong droga, base sa House Bill (HB) No. 6783 ni Alvarez.

Dagdag ng mambabatas, kung legal na ang marijuana, ang karagdagang pondo ay maaaring magamit para sa programang Build Better More ng administrasyong Marcos. Maaari ring madagdagan ang pondo para sa social services at mabayaran ang lumolobong utang ng bansa dahil sa epekto ng pandemya sa ekonimya.

Ipinunto rin niya ang kawalan ng logic sa pagbabawal sa marijuana, habang ang ibang mas delikadong produkto tulad ng alak, sigarilyo, at matamis na inumin ay pinapayagan ng gobyerno.

“The prohibition against marijuana made sense in the 60s and 70s when data was not available that shows it should be classified differently. But it’s been decades already, and new information is available. We must be able to do course corrections, otherwise we doom law and public policy by turning these into a museum, never changing, never progressing. Hindi naman pupuwede na ganoon na lang,” pahayag ni Alvarez.
