No food shall be wasted in the coming years now that House Bill 4465 has been approved on third and final reading, Quezon City 1st District Representative Anthony Peter “Onyx” D. Crisologo announced.

Authored by Crisologo, HB 7956 mandates food establishments to donate their unused food products to charitable institutions, instead of disposing it.

Despite being excess commodities, the meals should be safe for consumption.

A survey conducted by the Social Weather Station (SWS) showed that around 2.3 million families suffered from hunger in early 2019.

According to the House Assistant Majority Leader, the decrease in the percentage should not be celebrated as there are still Filipinos struggling with the long-term issue.

Once HB 7956 is enacted, resources will be efficiently used by the food establishments while at the same time, help lessen the number of Filipinos facing hunger everyday.
