The House Committee on Metro Manila Development will sit down and discuss the issues that is delaying the closure of U-turn slots along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), in preparation for the holiday season.

Panel chair and Manila 1st District Representative Manuel Luis T. Lopez is confident that the committee will settle for a resolution that would best benefit the riding public in the coming weeks.

“The traffic problem on EDSA has been a perennial one. It seems that this problem has now been compounded by the closure of U-turn slots. As we near the Christmas week, we will not be surprised if the problem worsens,” he said.

Aside from the main agenda, the group will also tackle the proposed bus-only flyover project.

To gain more insights about the issue, the panel has invited heads of agencies that are involved in the traffic management system including Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and key stakeholders and representatives of public transport operators and drivers, as well as commuters, to join them.

“As always, our goal is to examine the policies, programs and implementation process of the various government agencies and branches and see to it that these are in line with our principles of, as we mentioned in the beginning, good governance and genuine service to the public,” Lopez added.

“We hope that this dialogue will bring about positive results and solutions, both on a short-term and long-term basis,” he ended.
