Senior Citizens Party-List Representative Rodolfo “Ompong” Ordanes voiced out his support towards the Department of Health’s (DOH) move to prioritize senior citizens once the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccine starts rolling out in the country.

As of December 14, the country has secured more than 2.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from British company AstraZeneca. In addition to that, the government eyes in releasing COVID-19 vaccines from Chinese firm Sinovac and US drugmaker Pfizer by the first and third quarter of 2021.

Ordanes assured that he and other senior citizens’ groups nationwide will be all out in generating awareness about the vaccination program.

“We have a well-established and working grassroots network of seniors’ groups all the way down to the household and street levels,” he said.

“We will meet and mobilize to throw our full support to the DOH COVID-19 vaccination program, especially on educating the seniors and their families on the science and necessity of the COVID-19 vaccination,” he added.

Aside from the elderlies, medical frontliners, indigent population, and uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and more would also be first in line.
