“No Filipino should be left behind in the fight against Covid 19. Let us work together to ensure that the vaccines are made available to everyone who needs it.”
This was one of the statements of Representative Florida “Rida” Robes in her privilege speech on “Ensuring an equitable vaccine distribution in PH”.
In her address, Robes highlighted the vital roles that Filipino medical frontliners across the world have taken in the fight against the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Among these is May Parsons, a Filipina nurse based in the United Kingdom, who administered the first COVID-19 vaccine on a 90-year-old patient just recently.
Another was Minnie Klepacz, who was granted the British Empire Medal for her services at the Queen’s Birthday Honours this year.
Meanwhile, the congresswoman also tackled the highly anticipated arrival of the vaccine in the country.
Despite being a symbol of hope, Robes believes that securing the COVID-19 vaccine will not be enough because of the intricate procedure that it entails.
“Kalakip sa vaccine development ay ang vaccine procurement and distribution na isa na namang hamon na kailangan matugunan ng ating pamahalaan at ibang leader ng ating bansa,” she said. “Hindi ito magiging madali para sa atin.”
With numerous challenges posed, Robes encouraged the public to work together so everyone can get their hands on the vaccine.
“Let us work together to ensure that the vaccines are made available to everyone who needs it. Sana All ang Covid 19 vaccine!” she said.
Robes ended the speech by expressing optimism that the global health crisis will soon come to an end and Filipinos will be able to focus in “rebuilding” their lives.
She added, “There is now light at the end of the tunnel and we should make sure that every Filipino get to that light so we can begin to rebuild our lives.”
“I will personally make sure to do everything possible to help in this effort to give vaccine to every Filipino,” Robes assured.
