Rep. Salo Sa Gobyerno: Aksyunan Ang Marahas Na Pagpatay Sa OFWs

Nanawagan si KABAYAN Party-list Rep. Ron Salo sa gobyerno na aksyunan ang naitalang 27 na kaso ng pagkamatay ng mga overseas Filipino workers (OFW) dahil sa karahasan.

Sa isang pahayag, nanawagan siya sa gobyerno na siyasatin nang mabuti ang mga kaso ng karahasan na naitala ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). 

Ayon sa Foreign Affairs department walong OFW ang naitalang namatay sa Saudi Arabia, lima sa South Africa, apat sa Kuwait, at tatlo sa Cyprus.

“This matter should deeply concern us Filipinos because it tells of the extreme risk to life that our overseas workers find themselves in while trying to make a decent living for their families,” binanggit ni Salo.

Iginiit niya na dapat aksyunan ng gobyerno ang mga kaso ng pagkamatay ng mga OFW at siguraduhin na makakamit ang hustisya. Isinusulong ng mambabatas na dapat magkaroon ng maabilidad na abogado na hahawak ng mga kaso para siguraduhin ang matagumpay na prosecution at conviction ng mga may sala.

“I have said this time and again – convictions of these criminals will deter future aggressors against our Kabayans, for they will know that our government is there to protect them,” aniya.

Kasalukuyang nagbibigay ng libreng legal assistance at financial assistance ang DFA sa mga pamilya ng mga namatay na OFW.

Nanawagan rin ang chair ng House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs sa publiko na ilapit sa awtoridad ang lahat ng insidente ng posibleng abuso o pananamantala ng OFWs.

“An attack on our countrymen overseas is also an attack on our country; we need to do everything in our power to make sure that the perpetrators are punished accordingly,” aniya.
