Newly-elected and returning members of the Congress participated in a three-day training Executive program on June 28, 2022 to equip themselves with skills related to the processes of the House of Representatives.

The initiative entitled, “Understanding Development Concepts, Indicators, and Approaches: Current Issues and Challenges in Philippine Development,” was organized by the Office of Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza, in collaboration with the University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG).

In the seminar, UP-NCPAG  Associate Professor Dr. Enrico Basillo and Dean Dan Saguil emphasized the framework of policy, environment, regulation, institution building, and infrastructure development., They also tackled the importance of aligning policies with the sustainable development goals, and the role of the legislative branch in national development.

Basilio cited that infrastructure development proposals are significant in the economy of the country. He added that in terms of regulation, Congress should help ensure the ways that market players are behaving.

“(I am) glad that Congress passed the Philippine Competition Act that physically establishes the Philippine Competition Commission that is tasked to ensure no market player misbehaves or exhibits anti-competitive behaviors,” Basillo added.

There were 24 attendees out of 28 legislators from Batch 1 of the training program.
