Opisyal nang kinilala ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) si Alfredo Garbin Jr. bilang mayor ng Legazpi City matapos idiskwalipika si Carmen Geraldine Rosal. Si Rosal ang orihinal na nanalo noong May 2022 elections ngunit nadiskwalipika noong October 2022 dahil sa paglabag umano sa Omnibus Election Code, kaugnay ng paggamit ng pondo ng gobyerno sa panahon ng campaign ban.

Naganap ang proklamasyon ni Garbin sa Comelec headquarters sa Intramuros, Manila, matapos maglabas ng decision ang Supreme Court (SC) noong nakaraang buwan. Umaasa siya na magdudulot na ito ng pagkakaisa sa Legazpi matapos ang mga isyung humati sa lungsod. 

“(Ang) sabi nila pag SC nagdesisyon, they will respect it. And I hope, true to their word, they will respect the decision of the SC and the Comelec en banc,” saad ng mayor na hanggang Hunyo 30, 2025 lamang ang termino.

Samantala, inanunsyo ni Comelec Chairperson George Garcia na maglalabas na ng listahan ang First at Second Divisions ng mga kandidatong idineklarang “nuisance” para sa nalalapit na May 2025 midterm elections. Sa ngayon, nasa 300 na mga kaso ang nakapending sa buong bansa para ideklarang nuisance candidates.

Nauna nang nag-deklara ng 47 nuisance candidates ang Comelec para sa mga tatakbong senador habang 66 na kandidato na ang nasa partial/initial list ng senatorial bets. Pinaalala ni Garcia na maaaring iapela ng mga kandidato ang desisyon ng Comelec Divisions sa en banc at kung kinakailangan, sa Korte Suprema para sa temporary restraining order.
