Kabayan Partylist Representative Ron Salo said that the deliberation meeting on the nine proposed bills regarding the magna carta for Filipino seafarers has commenced.
According to him, the bills about the magna carta for Filipino seafarers were proposed in the 16th, 17th, and 18th progress but were disapproved by the Senate.
Salo emphasized that this bill shall provide protection with the Filipino seafarers’ rights and welfare, including the responsibilities of their ship owners and managing agencies. The new version of the bill, he pointed out, indicated a clear framework and regulations that need to be tackled in the current Congress.
“We are determined to balance the interests and ensure the socio-economic well-being of seafarers and all stakeholders anchored on improved employment terms and working conditions,” the lawmaker said.
He steadfastly urged the key players to push the magna carta. In line with this, Salo is also confident that with the Department of Migrant Workers under the leadership of Secretary Susan Ople, the proposed bill will be approved.
