Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar on Thursday said a quarantine facility for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients in Parañaque City will be completed within this month.

“The Paranaque City College Covid-19 Quarantine Facility will be completed within the month of August. #BuildBuildBuild,” Villar in a Facebook post.

The 56-bed facility with two rooms for health workers is being built at the Parañaque City College located in Coastal Road, Kabihasnan, San Dionisio.

The facility is among the 23 quarantine facilities in Metro Manila for Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms.

Villar earlier reported that the quarantine sites are eight facilities in Quezon City, four in Pasay City, two in the municipality of Pateros, and one each in the cities of Manila, Marikina, Parañaque, Makati, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Malabon, and Navotas.

These facilities that have a total capacity of 2,417 beds are expected to be completed this August.

The DPWH on Thursday also announced the completion of new quarantine facilities in Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte that will help free up hospital beds for moderate, critical or severe Covid-19 cases.

In a statement, the DPWH said the three multi-purpose buildings were converted into isolation facilities with 120-bed capacity by DPWH Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office in partnership with the city government.

DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, representing Villar, has turned over a 40-bed capacity quarantine facility in Barangay Poblacion to Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia on Wednesday.

The head of the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities said two similar multi-purpose buildings in barangays Acmac (Sta. Felomina) and Tomas Cabili were converted into quarantine facilities each with 40-bed cubicles that will isolate asymptomatic, mild, suspect or probable cases to help curb the spread of coronavirus in the city.

The city has already recorded 234 cases as of August 26.

Other than the conversion of the covered court into cubicle rooms, a rest room and shower was set up in the quarantine facilities.

The facilities to be operated by the city health department will provide not only the much-needed treatment of Covid-19 patients but also the proper care of locally stranded individuals and returning overseas Filipino workers undergoing mandatory 14-day self-isolation for the protection of their families.

Sadain said the DPWH is planning to build isolation facilities at Barangay Lunotan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental with 37-bed capacity; Talairon, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental with 90-bed capacity; and Upper Puerto and Barangay Macasandig, both in Cagayan De Oro City with 20 and 30-bed capacity, respectively.
