Nanawagan si Senador Grace Poe na ipagpatuloy ang laban sa mga mobile phone scammer sa kalagitnaan ng subscriber identity module (SIM) registration.

“There are still SIM farms out there and spoofing tools. Sinister minds will never stop hatching ways of stealing information and duping people,” aniya.

Sinabi ni Poe sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) na huwag maliitin ang mga lumalabag sa batas, kahit na iniulat ang pagbaba ng scam messages.

Idiniin niya rin na ituloy ang pag-kumbinsi sa publiko na irehistro ang kanilang SIM number bago dumating ang April 26, 2023 na deadline. 

Ayon sa Republic Act No. 11934, kinakailangan irehistro ng lahat ng kasalukuyang subscriber ang kanilang mobile number sa kanilang service network. 

Maaaring magkaroon ng 120 days na extension ang registration sa ilalim ng panukala.

“With the law, we expect all fraudulent and unwanted text messages to die a natural death. But we must not let our guard down,” pahayag ni Poe.

“The extension period, if so decided by the DICT, will be for the legitimate subscribers to register and avoid disruption in their mobile phone services. This should not extend the heydays of the scammers,” dagdag niya.

Ayon sa DICT, tinatayang 45.8 million o 27.12 porsyento ng 169 million na SIM cards ang ginagamit ngayon sa bansa.
