Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III calls for the national government to fund more medical school scholarships, noting that the public will greatly benefit from this starting five (5) years from now.
This came after Marikina City passed Ordinance No. 078 Series 2019 or “Libreng Pag-aaral sa Pagdodoktor para sa Marikenos” which offers full medical scholarship grants to qualified residents who aspire to become doctors.
“This move of Marikina City is public service at its best. The national government should follow suit and design programs that support the studies of many aspiring doctors in our country. More doctors means more prevented and treated diseases,” said Pimentel.
Senator Pimentel, who is a member of Senate Committee on Health, expressed his full support for the said ordinance and called for more medical scholarships nationwide, saying that investing in medical education will produce more healthcare professionals five (5) years from now.
“Kung ang ating gobyerno ay may libreng paaral sa pagdodoktor, maraming estudyante na kapos sa buhay ang mabibigyan ng pagkakataong maabot ang kanilang mga pangarap at makatulong din sa ating kababayan. Sabi nga ng ating mga kabataan ngayon, SANA ALL,” added Pimentel.
Pimentel, who has filed a bill entitled “National Center for Geriatric Health and Research Institute Act” also stressed that our country not only needs more doctors but also needs more doctors to specialize *in the field of medicine for the elderly. (senate.gov.ph)
