Mariing pinabulaanan ni Vice President at Education Secretary Sara Duterte ang mga pahayag ni Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. na malaki ang naging impluwensya ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez sa kanyang desisyon na tumakbo bilang bise presidente.
“To say that he “tremendously helped in pushing for” my Vice Presidential bid is acutely inaccurate — an insult to thousands of groups and individuals who incessantly implored me to reconsider an earlier decision not to join national politics,” pahayag niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Duterte na si Senador Imee Marcos ang humimok sa kanya na tumakbo, at pagkatapos pumayag ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa ilang mga kundisyon. Ibinasura rin niya ang mga pahayag ni Barzaga at sinabi wala itong alam o batay ito sa maling impormasyon. Iginiit din ni Duterte na walang papel si Romualdez sa kanyang mga adhikain sa pulitika.
“Meanwhile, a person who cannot distinguish between attack and humor has no place in politics — especially if one fails to understand that political bickering is just a facet of democracy and should not be used to equate with governance.”
“On the one hand, how the recent political developments have become an opportunity for sycophants is quite amusing.”
Sa huli, muling iginiit ni Duterte ang kanyang walang patid na suporta sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
Matatandaang naglabas ng pahayag si Barzaga kung saan pinuri niya si Romualdez sa pagiging kalmado at pagtutok sa kanyang mga responsibilidad bilang pinuno ng House of Representatives. Ipinagtanggol niya si Romualdez, at sinabing ang Speaker ay hindi kailanman nagbitaw ng negatibong salita tungkol kay Duterte, sa kabila ng pagiging target ng kanyang mga insulto.
“The Speaker held his horses and remained focused on his job as the leader of the House of Representatives amid this political rift. He never fired back with insults of his own. That shows strength of character.”
Binigyang-diin ni Barzaga ang suporta ng iba’t ibang partido para sa pamumuno ni Romualdez, na nagbigay-daan sa Kamara na isulong ang mga priority bill ni Pangulong Marcos. Ipinunto rin niya na malaki ang papel ni Romualdez sa pagsuporta sa vice presidential bid ni Duterte at nagpahayag ng pag-asa na maayos ang kanilang alitan.
“The Speaker worked hard for then Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s vice presidential bid because he genuinely believed that she would make a difference. Their rift is sad news and I hope that it will be mended soon.”
