Tila ikinatuwa pa ni Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Z. Duterte ang mga kasong drug smuggling na isinampa laban sa kanya ng aniya ay “trililing na sundalong kanin” na si dating Senador Antonio Trillanes IV.
Ang mga kaso ay may kaugnayan sa P6.4-bilyong shabu shipment na nasamsam sa Valenzuela City noong 2017.
“I welcome Antonio Trillanes’ plan to file a drug smuggling case against me. This is a welcome development, mas maganda ito dahil sa Korte ng Pilipinas ang pagdinig at hindi sa korte ng Facebook at utak ng isang trililing na sundalong kanin. This move will allow us to address these accusations through the proper legal channels, ensuring that the truth will prevail,” pahayag ni Duterte.
Pinanindigan din ng mambabatas ang kanyang pagiging inosente at nagpahayag ng pagtitiwala sa proseso ng judicial system.
“I have always maintained my innocence, and I am confident that the judicial process will clear my name. It is important to rely on our legal institutions rather than resorting to trial by publicity or baseless allegations.”
Ang mga kaso ay nag-ugat sa 47-pahinang reklamo na inihain ni Trillanes base sa isang legislative inquiry na ginanap noong 2017. Ang inquiry ay humantong sa mga kasong kriminal laban sa mga indibidwal na konektado sa shabu shipment sa loob ng bessel na Guang Ping Voyage No. 1719S, na dumating sa Manila International Container Port noong Mayo 2017. Kabilang sa mga kinasuhan sina dating Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, mister ni Vice President Sara Duterte na si Mans Carpio, at iba pa.
Nabanggit sa reklamo ni Trillanes ang testimonya ng broker na si Mark Taguba, na umano’y may malaking papel ang tinatawag na Davao Group, kabilang si Duterte, sa pagpapadali sa operasyon ng smuggling.
“Clearly, the Davao Group’s influence and authority within the BOC are conclusive and irrefutable. After dealing with the Davao Group, Taguba’s previously problematic and often delayed if not ‘alerted’ transactions with the BOC have been characterized as ‘smooth-sailing,’ bypassing the institutional screening mechanisms set by the Bureau,” ani Trillanes sa kanyang reklamo.
Bilang tugon, ipinunto ni Duterte ang pagkakatulad ng mga akusasyong ito at ng mga naunang ginawa ni Trillanes, na nagresulta sa mga kasong libel laban sa dating senador.
“Please bear in mind that this is the similar case that Mr. Trillanes has made a fool out of himself when he presented his alleged evidences against me… as a mercenary. I am not surprised who Mr. Trillanes has once again fooled to fund this desperate attempt to peddle this baseless story to the Filipino people.”
“I also look forward to the resolution of the libel cases I filed against him,” pagtatapos niya.
