Bohol 3rd District Representative Alexie Tutor planned to overhaul the 53 year-old Republic Act 5680 or An Act Creating the Board of Examiners for Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists amid the recovering phases of COVID-19 pandemic.
Rep. Tutor proposed House Bill 2045 to strengthen the Physical Therapy Law of 2022 that she filed last 18th Congress.
Tutor, the principal author of the said bill, recently met with Philippine Physical Therapy Association Incorporated (PPTA) President Michael Gabilo who emphasized that this bill is important not only to the Physical Therapy profession, but also to other medical professions.
Meanwhile, Rep. Tutor said in her statement that occupational therapy was enhanced through Republic Act 20041, but the physical therapy profession was not able to prioritize during the last 18th congress due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“There is greater urgency now to give licensed physical therapists their new governing law because of the crucial role of physical therapists, especially in the recovery phases of COVID patients and of other patients recovering from surgery or from acute to chronic disorders.” Tutor said.
“Physical therapists are also important members of the health professions sector and of the sports and fitness community.” She added.
Tutor urged to make a working technical group to consolidate all the pending professional working bills.
