The local government of Valenzuela has made it easier for senior residents to sign up for its Covid-19 vaccination program.
In his social media post on Sunday, Mayor Rex Gatchalian said a lot of senior citizens are willing to get vaccinated but find it difficult to register online due to their limited knowledge of technology.
Thus, the city government launched an automatic registration of all senior citizens using the existing database.
Gatchalian said registration of senior citizens will be done by batch and each qualified elder will automatically receive an appointment letter.
“Mas maganda na mag-register pa din sila online pero if wala pong capasidad eto po ang magiging system para sa mga individual na ganun ang situation (It is better for them to register online but if they do not have the capability, this will be the system for individuals in that situation),” he explained.
A person may disregard the appointment letter as getting vaccinated is voluntary, the mayor reiterated.
Still, he cited the importance of getting protection against Covid-19, particularly among the elderly.
“Senior citizens are the most vulnerable sector to get more complications and severe symptoms once they’re infected with the coronavirus,” Gatchalian, who received his first dose on April 8, said.
As per the April 21 report of the Department of Health, 20,343 senior citizens have been infected by the dreaded disease while 8.4 percent or 10,117 died due to complications.
Valenzuela has 1,059 active cases as of Saturday, raising the total confirmed cases to 16,581, with 15,129 recoveries and 393 deaths.
