House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco paid his respects to traditional master weaver and “Manlilikha ng Bayan” awardee Fu Yabing Masalon Dulo through a filed resolution.
She passed away on the midnight of January 26. She was 106.
Hailed from the B’laan tribe, weaving is already a part of her genes given that her mother is also a master weaver.
“Fu Yabing Masalon Dulo’s artistry, knowledge, talent, passion, and advocacy has made her an important cultural bearer for the B’laan tribe and inspired a new generation to preserve the B’laan textile and clothing tradition, and the death of such a beloved and respected elder and artist is an immense and profound loss not only to her family and her community, but to our country and the Filipino people as well,” Velasco wrote in House Resolution (HR) No. 1540.
She was also dubbed as a National Living Treasure, and was known for her “peerless mastery of the B’laan traditional textile”.
“Her skill and mastery of the intricacies of ikat weaving, dyeing and embroidery, unique understanding of the intricate process involved, and vast knowledge on the species endemic to their community, as well as her invaluable participation in raising awareness of this uniquely Filipino traditional art, has sparked widespread interest and elevated the Mabal Tabih tradition of the B’laan tribe to its rightful place in our country’s cultural heritage,” Velasco said.
