House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco encouraged Filipinos to channel the patriotism of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal in commemoration of Rizal Day.
Jose Rizal ignited the revolution when he was assassinated on December 30,1896 due to rebellion.
His classic novels “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” prompted Filipinos at the time to strike against the Spanish colonizers, who took over the country for over three centuries.
“Rizal is an epitome of national pride, excellence, and patriotism,” he wrote in a statement. “Even after 124 years, Rizal’s ideals and influence remain relevany up to this day.”
“As we commemorate this important day in Philippine history, may Rizal’s sacrifice and heroism inspire us all in the face of the worst public health crisis of this generation,” he added.
“His martyrdom should propel us to rise above the pandemic and to continue to strive for a better life for the present and future generations of Filipinos.”
