Ang Kapatiran party vice-presidential bet Atty. Alexander Lacson announced his withdrawal for vice presidency upon learning that Liberal Party member Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) earlier this morning for the same position in the 2022 national elections.
Lacson said that he withdrew his VP candidacy for the ‘greater good,’ and to avoid division of votes of the opposition.
“Now that Sen. Kiko Pangilinan has decided to run for the Vice Presidency under Leni Robredo, I have decided to withdraw my VP Candidacy. Sen Kiko is a genuine opposition candidate. If I run for VP, I will divide the votes of the opposition. I have decided to support Sen Kiko and VP Leni,” he said.
“This is not an easy decision for me. But I have to sacrifice for the greater good. I do not want to cause division or fragmentation in the ranks of the opposition. I want the opposition to win. I want a new direction for our country.” Lacson added.
Instead, Lacson will run for the senatorial race under the same party. “Kailangan ng bansa ng tunay na pagbabago, pati sa Senado. Tuloy ang laban. I will run for Senator under the Kapatiran Party,” he ended.
Atty. Alexander Lacson ran for the Senate in 2010 under the Liberal party but lost. He is a Filipino bestselling author of patriotic books, lawyer, and NGO leader. He wrote “12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country”, “12 Wonderful Things About the Filipino & Our Motherland”
