Vice President Leni Robredo has stated that she is open to run for any position in 2022 last Sunday in her weekly radio show. However, she has not completely decided as her focus is with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Mula last year, sinabi ko na open ako sa lahat ng options. At ano yung options na yun? Tumakbo ako ng pangulo, governor, congressman, mayor or hindi na ako tumakbo at all – yun ang gusto ng mga anak ko,” she said.
The discussion over Robredo’s candidacy status started when former Sen. Antonio Trillanes announced on Facebook that he would run for president for the 1SAMBAYAN opposition coalition in the next election after claiming that she is preparing to run for Camarines Sur governor in 2022.
Trillanes later explained his earlier announcement was not meant to pressure the country’s No. 2 to reveal her plans in any way.
Moreover, the rumors of her preparations for a gubernatorial run were also fueled when Robredo arranged for the recent transfer of her residency from Naga City to Magarao, Camarines Sur.
This was refuted by Robredo as she stated that she has not changed her registration because she has no decision yet.
“Huwag naman akong pangunahan. Kapag sinabi mong nakapagdesisyon na ako, mali ka kasi wala pa akong desisyon,” she said. “Wala pa akong tinatanggap na political meetings, wala pa akong mga meetings sa mga local officials.”
Still, Robredo admitted that she is “more attracted” to running for a local post. Her heart has always been on engaging with the community on ground.
“Di ko nga alam kung kakandidato pa ako. Mas attractive sa ‘kin ang local. Ang hinahanap ko kasi yung engagement sa ground. Ever since, ang trabaho ko, sa communities. Despite that, naiintindihan ko may responsibilities ako. Kaya nga, hindi pa ako sarado na hindi ako magkakandidatong Presidente.”
Leni Robredo continues to focus her actions in helping fight against COVID-19. The Office of the Vice President has released a COVID-19 Response Updates report stating the many contributions of the office such as Swab Cab and Bayanihan E-Konsulta among others.
