Vice Presidential candidate Leni Robredo has advised her supporters to step up their door-to-door campaign following the Holy Week break, and she advises them to be prepared to have real and honest talks with people.

In a Facebook live on Sunday night, April 10, Robredo stated that, aside from rallies, the “tao-sa-tao,” house-to-house campaign allows each of them to engage people in meaningful conversations where they can dispel the lies on social media.

“Bawal pong magkampanya Holy Thursday saka Good Friday. So kahit sobrang sipag natin, bawal po,” Robredo said, adding that these are days that should be spent in prayer.

“Magre-remind lang po ako na after the Holy Week, tuluy-tuloy ‘yung ating house-to-house kasi kailangan po tayo mag-double time,” she said. “Ang reminder lang po, tao sa tao ang ating pag-kampanya. ‘Yung rallies po natin, okay ‘yun kaya ini-invite natin lahat to join the rallies pero apart from the rallies, mas maganda po ‘yung nagha-house to house tayo.”

According to Robredo, house-to-house canvassing should involve more than just handing out brochures. It is about having “tunay na pakikiusap” – genuine and honest discourse – since it is the only way to combat disinformation and lies that have been circulated even before the campaign period began.

According to Tsek.ph, an academe-based fact-checking effort, Robredo is the “biggest victim of disinformation or negative campaigning.”

“Dapat po i-engage natin ‘yung mga kababayan natin na kung ano ‘yung mga nakakarating sa kanilang balita na hindi totoo, dapat ide-debunk natin ‘yun lahat,” Robredo said.

Robredo added that based on volunteers’ experience during house-to-house activities, having conversations with people is highly effective in converting people to become supporters.

‘Yung experience naman po noong mga nagha-house to house sa atin, sobrang effective ng conversion. So, kaya natin ‘yan, basta tulung-tulong tayo,” she shared.

Robredo’s popularity increased by 9 percent in the latest Pulse Asia poll, rising from 15 percent in February to 24 percent in March.

In Pangasinan, Robredo stated that her rise in the polls is a tremendous motivator for her followers since they are seeing the fruits of their labor.

“Malaking bagay siya para makita ng mga supporters natin na nagme-make ng mark ‘yung lahat ng ginagawa nilang pagod. Nakikita namin ‘yung movement at saka ‘yung trajectory pataas,” she had said. “Ang pinaka-maganda dito kasi ito ‘yung nagpapakita na ‘yung momentum nasa atin talaga… If there is one lesson na natutunan sa mga eleksyon, it’s not over until it’s over.”
