Sinabihan ni Bise Presidente at Education Secretary Sara Duterte ang Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) na ikundena ang mga atake ng New People’s Army (NPA) na nakakaapekto sa mga mag-aaral sa probinsya ng Masbate at itigil ang paggamit ng “victim card.”

“We should only take ACT Teachers seriously if it publicly condemns NPA atrocities in Masbate and all other NPA terroristic activities that hampered the learning of children across the country,” aniya sa isang pahayag.

“ACT Teachers should stop dropping the victim card around the table whenever they are exposed as sympathizers and supporters of the NPA, the Communist Party of the Philippines, and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines,” dagdag ni Duterte.

Ang pahayag ay kasunod sa kanyang pagpuna sa ACT kung saan tinawag niya na “hindi makatotohanan at imposible” ang mga suhestiyon ng grupo na mag-hire ng 30,000 na guro at magkaroon ng P100 billion na pondo para sa pagtatayo ng mga classroom.

Idiniin ni Duterte na hindi bulag ang Department of Education (DepEd) sa mga problema na kinakaharap ng sektor ng edukasyon sa bansa. Dagdag niya sa kanyang pahayag na bago pa ang suhestiyon ng ACT Teachers, inilatag na ng departamento ang mga solusyon kasama ang hiring ng teaching at non-teaching personnel, pagtatayo ng mga paaralan at digitization sa Basic Education Report noong January 30, 2023. 

“May I reiterate that ACT Teachers’ suggestions were both unrealistic and impossible – presented to shame the government and deceive the public into believing that the hiring of teachers and increasing the education budget were their ideas,” pagdidiin niya.

Ayon kay ACT chairperson Vladimer Quetua, kinakailangan ng bansa ng 147,000 na guro para mabawasan ang laki ng klase sa 35 na mag-aaral at siguraduhin na makakapagturo ng maayos ang mga guro at mabantayan ang progreso ng mga mag-aaral.
