Mariing binatikos ni Senador Risa Hontiveros ang babala ng China sa Pilipinas kasunod ng mensahe ng pagbati ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa bagong pangulo ng Taiwan. 

Sa isang pahayag, hinimok niya ang administrasyon na i-align ang foreign policy nito at idiniin na walang karapatan ang China na diktahan ang mga Pilipino.

“The administration should get its act together. We cannot have the President, the chief architect of foreign policy, say one thing, while the Department of Foreign Affairs says another,” giit ni Hontiveros sa isang opisyal na pahayag.

Binigyang-diin niya na ang China ay walang awtoridad na magdikta sa Pilipinas, at sinabing, “Wala silang karapatan pagmanduhan tayo gaya nang wala silang karapatan maglayag diyan sa West Philippine Sea.”

“As I’ve called for before, we must review this so-called One China Policy. China has done far worse things in our territories compared to a congratulatory message to Taiwan,” dagdag ng mambabatas, na binigyang-diin din ang pangangailangan para sa reassessment sa pagkilala ng Pilipinas sa One China Policy.

Ipinatawag ng China ang ambassador ng Pilipinas noong Martes, at sinabihan ang Pilipinas ng, “not to play with fire.” Inakusahan ni Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning si Pangulong Bongbong Marcos Jr. ng paglabag sa mga political commitment sa China at walang pakundangan na nakikialam sa mga internal affair nito.

Binati ni Marcos ang bagong pangulo ng Taiwan na si Lai Ching-te noong Lunes, at nagpahayag ng pag-asam para sa  “close collaboration” at “strengthening mutual interests.” Si Lai, na kilala sa kanyang commitment para sa de-facto independence ng Taiwan, ay umani ng galit mula sa Beijing.

Bilang tugon sa babala ng China, ipinagtanggol din ni Hontiveros ang karapatan ng Pangulo na magpadala ng pagbati, at sinabing, “China has no business telling Filipinos what to say or not.”
